Intro to Sailing
Introduction to Sailing is for the new sailor who wants to learn just the very basic techniques of sailing. Never sailed before? Don't worry! During the 3 hours, you will be introduced to the joys of sailing with an experienced instructor onboard!

Course Content:
Classes are taught by patient and knowledgeable instructors. You'll learn about rigging the boat, basic techniques, and sailing in the Inner Harbor!

Requirements:
What's the next step? Bring your best sailing questions, a great attitude and the desire to learn how exciting sailing can be!!

Students may register for the ASA 101 course without taking the Intro to Sailing. This course is designed as a light introduction to the adventure of sailing!

Cost :
$93 per person.

** Please note, this class is NOT a prerequisite for ASA 101. Students MAY enroll in ASA 101 without completing Intro to Sailing.

Fundamentals of Sailing (ASA 101)

Fundamentals of Sailing (ASA 101) is a comprehensive, sailing course focusing on the basic skills necessary to safely sail a small keelboat in moderate conditions in Baltimore Harbor and the Chesapeake Bay.

Graduates of Fundamentals of Sailing are invited to take part in one Friday evening Social Sail from 5:30 to sunset.

Course Content:
Topics covered include sailing vocabulary, rigging the Sonar and preparations for getting underway, sailing from and returning to the dock, holding a steady course, the maneuvers of heading up, rules of the road, basic knots and chart reading.

Boats:
The course is taught onboard Getaway's fleet of Sonars, a quick and responsive 23-foot, fixed-keel sloop with a large comfortable cockpit. Sonars are high performance boats and lots of fun to sail. Click here for pics.

What to Bring :
The best outfit for sailing is shorts, a top and tennis shoes (white soles) or boat shoes. A hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and water bottle are essential.

Course Cost:
$495.00 + tax for non-members; $420.00 + tax for members.

ASA Basic Keelboat certification examination:
The American Sailing Association's Keelboat Certification exam is offered at the end of the course. This is a great certification that can be presented worldwide as evidence of sailing skills.
