Coastal Navigation (ASA 105)

Coastal Navigation is a two-day classroom course.

Course Content:
Topics covered include understanding nautical charts, navigation
aids, course plotting, dead reckoning, and using electronic navigational
equipment including GPS. The effects of tides, currents and wind on
the projected position of your boat are studied.

Graduates will know how to plan and execute an extended passage.
Coastal Navigation is a relevant and practical course that touches
on everything a good sailor needs to know about navigating in coastal
waters.

Prerequisites:
An evening meeting - scheduled on the Wednesday 10 days prior to the course - is mandatory for all students.

Topics will include a course materials & general syllabus review, and pre-course study requirements. All students will be required to read through Chapter 5 of the ASA Coastal Navigation Manual before attending class.

Textbook:
The required textbook is the ASA Coastal Navigation Manual. The cost is $65.
The charts required for the course are included.

Cost:
$300.00 + tax; $270.00 + tax for club members.

Advanced Coastal Crusing (ASA 106)

Advanced Coastal Cruising (ASA 106) is a 6-day cruising course
designed for the sailor who wants to learn the essential, real-world
skills required for off-shore sailing at night as well as during the day.
Departing from Baltimore, you will sail south to experience the challenges
of the bay.

Course Content:
Instruction will include advanced navigation, anchoring, docking,
sailing at night, setting and maintaining a watch schedule, provisioning
and cooking aboard.

** Customized Dates: Groups of 2 or more can schedule private courses
at no additional cost.

Prerequisites:
Fundamentals of Sailing (ASA101), Intermediate Sailing, and Basic
Cruising (ASA 103). Coastal Navigation (ASA105) is highly recommended.

Recommended text: Annapolis Book of Seamanship by John Rousmainere.
