Fundamentals of Outboard Engines
If you are sailing the CALs, this is a fantastic course and highly recommended!
Course Content:
You will be instructed on how to start and operate the engine
and you
will learn what makes the engine work -- and why, at
times, it doesn't
work!
You will learn how to troubleshoot, and, by disassembling the
engine, you will become familiar with the various parts and how
they work together to produce the power.
Cost: $135.00 + tax; $121.50 + tax for club members.

Practical Navigation
This seven-hour, underway course begins at 2 p.m. onboard the
boat and ends at 9 p.m.
Course content:
During the course you will get fixes with
a hand-bearing compass
and charts, and then check your fix with
a hand-held GPS. The
numerous lighted buoys will assist you to
locate your position.

Prerequisite:
Students should have some background understanding of aids to navigation.
Textbook:
The navigation section of John Rousmaire’s, Annapolis Book of Sailing
and Seamanship will provide a sound foundation.

Intermediate Sailing
Intermediate Sailing is our bridge course
between daysailing
and
overnight cruising.
Course content:
This one-day course introduces the techniques of cruising, including
operation of an outboard engine, sailing a small cruising sailboat,
operation of roller furling gear, reefing, preparing for an overnight
cruise, analyzing the marine weather report, chart reading and basic
anchoring techniques.
We invite graduates to charter a CAL 22 for their first overnight cruise
to culminate this course.

at no additional cost.
Prerequisite:
Fundamentals of Sailing (ASA 101) or similar sailing experience.
Boats used for the instruction:
The CAL 22 is used for instruction, click here for pictures and specs.
What to Bring:
The best outfit for sailing is shorts, a top and tennis shoes (white soles)
or boat shoes. A hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and water bottle.
Cost:
$250.00 + tax; $225.00 + tax for club members.

Spinnaker Workshop
The Spinnaker Workshop is a full day of on-the-water practice.
Course content:
Before getting underway, students
practice while docked.
When underway,
the spinnaker is raised and lowered repeatedly until
it becomes routine.
** Customized Dates: Groups of 3 or more can schedule private courses
at no additional cost.
Prerequisite:
The workshop is designed for experienced sailors.
Textbook:
None.
Cost:
$160.00 + tax; $144.00 + tax for club members.

Private Instruction
On your boat or ours!
Has it been a few years since you've sailed? Are you in need of
a few refresher classes? Have you completed certifications but
would like to spend additional time on certain areas?
Private instruction would probably make the most sense!
One-on-one instruction is available at all levels of sailing ability and can be scheduled in one of our boats or in your boat.
Please call to arrange a convenient schedule of instruction.
Cost:
$30 - $40 an hour with rental of our boat, minimum 4 hours.
$40 - $50 an hour on your boat, minimum 4 hours. |
